About Paint Shop Pro
About
For beginners everything may seam hard and confusing, but after a lot of training you'll learn how it works. In Paint Shop Pro you can make your layouts, icons, edit pictures, etc. You can make your pictures more professional-looking.
Tools
The Pan tool is the tool you use to copy and paste images onto eachother etc. When you're making a layout, you don't use this tool that much, only in the beginning usually.
The Raster Deform tool is a smart tool to use on textures or backgrounds. If you are on the background layer and you want to make it bigger so it fits the size, click on this tool and then start dragging the background out. Don't use this tool on pictures of persons, they woun't look good!
The cropping tool is a tool I use very often. If you have made a layout and the cut around is to big or the layout is placed all wrong, you can use this tool to cut of the edges you don't want.
The Selection tool is the tool you use to mark different aeras of the picture. You can change the shape of the tool and choose the strenge in the edges. In this tool we also have the Freehand selection tool, which looks like this:
and the Magic Wand tool, which looks like this:
. The freehand tool also markes parts of the picture, but in a different way then the selection tool. You use the mouse to mark what you want. And the magic wand tool is a selection tool that marks aeras with the same colour. So if you have a picture with white background and you want to change the background, then you can just click on the background with the magic wand and the background get marked.
The dropper tool lets you find a colour on the picture you're working with. When you click on the colour, you can use this on for example the text on the layout so it matches.
The Paint Brush tool is a tool I use all the time. I use this tool to decorate the layouts I make. And you can install different brushes that you can use. Here you can also find the Airbrush tool, which looks like this:
and the Warp brush tool, which looks like this:
. I don't use this tools that much.
The Clone tool is a really smart tool to use sometimes. If you have a picture which is a little broken in maybe one place, then you can clone one aera that looks the same and paint it over the broken aera.
The Dodge Brush tool is a tool I use when I'm going to fix small parts of the picture. Like the make-up on the person in my layouts etc. There are many other tools here also, and I use all of them for the same thing, but they give you different results. Play with the tools and see how they work. For example, I use the Soften brush tool to make the skin look smoother.
This tool is great to use to give your picture a cool effect, it eighter lightens the picture or make it darker if you rightclick on the picture. But remember to not overdo it. To dark or to lighten doesn't look good. There are also other useful tools under the lighten/darken tool. Like one that can make the picture you have black and white.
The Eraser tool is smart to use when you've done something wrong. Just drag the tool over the part you want to erase.
With the Picture Tube tool there are alot of things you can do. It gives your picture a really cool/funny effect. I almost never use it, because i want a different effect to the picture then the one the picture tube gives you.
The Oil brush tool is a tool you can use to put some sort of art to your picture. Or you can make a picture from the bottom. It is several different other tools under the Oil brush you also can use. Everyone of them is art related. Try them out, see if you like them.
The flood fill tool is a tool I mostly use to fill the backgrounds with some sort of colour or gradient. It is very easy to use, so there is not so much to explain about it.
The text tool is very easy to use aswell. Click in the text tool, then on your picture/layout. A little box appears where you can write your text. But before you write anything, choose a colour you want to use, the font and a size you think looks nice. Then write the text and click 'ok'. If you don't like the sixe, font or colour, you can change it.
The rectangle tool makes reactangle you can use to make transparent boxes. You can choose the colour and the thickness of the border around the rectangle. After you've made the rectangle you can change it by clicking on this buttonm first:
